Hey there wingmates, Evan here! 🐦
Let's talk about something near and dear to our product's heart: Search.
Here’s an early prototype of our search UX. The visuals will change, but now we’re focused on how you’ll interact with it, and we can make it as efficient as possible. You'll notice it's not just a simple box in the corner; it's a powerhouse. Search customers, products, orders—all lightning fast. And notice how easy it is to filter by “items which have inventory!”
The All-Encompassing Search
One click. That's all it takes to have this search bar at your service. And it's everywhere.
The ubiquity of search across Pinkbird's interface is about more than convenience; it's about operational speed. Imagine you're in the middle of helping a customer at one of your retail locations, and they ask for a recommendation on French wines. You don't have to navigate away from the current transaction, open a new tab, or pull out a different device. The search bar is right there, accessible from every part of the interface. You type in "French wines," and thanks to semantic search, you immediately see a curated list, including wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux. Within seconds, you can offer well-informed recommendations without disrupting the customer interaction.
The power of having a universally accessible search tool can't be overstated, especially for businesses operating both online and through physical retail locations. It means every staff member, from those managing the inventory to those handling customer service, can access vital information instantaneously. It blurs the lines between online and offline, creating a seamless operational environment. It's not just a search bar; it's an integrated tool that makes running your business as smooth as a well-aged Cabernet.
What's Semantic Search?
Semantic search understands the context.
Semantic search in Pinkbird isn't just about locating data; it's about understanding your products. If you're looking for "French wine," our search will understand that "Burgundy" is a region in France known for its wine. So when you type "French wine," the search will automatically include "wines from Burgundy" in your results. It’s not keyword based; it comprehends the attributes, qualities, and categories related to your products, giving you a focused and useful outcome each time you search.
More than a List
By making search functionality so robust and omnipresent, the traditional need for lists of products, orders, or customers becomes obsolete. Why scroll through an extensive list when you can find exactly what you're looking for with a few keystrokes? In this new environment, sidebar items like "Products," "Orders," and "Customers" can be repurposed for more action-oriented tasks. Imagine you're juggling a phone call from a customer wanting to place an order, while two more customers have just walked into your physical location. The sidebar becomes your command center. A single click on "Orders" lets you quickly input the new phone order, so you can get back to attending to in-store customers, all without breaking a sweat.
What's more, this intuitive, search-centric UI makes it easier to train new or less technical staff. There's no need to explain how to navigate through a complex maze of product lists or customer databases. All they need to understand is how to use a search bar and how to input new data via the sidebar. The interface becomes self-explanatory, reducing the time and effort required for training. Whether your employees are tech-savvy or not, the platform accommodates everyone, allowing them to focus on what really matters: running the business efficiently.
What Do You Think?
Since Pinkbird is still in its early stages, your insights could have a real impact on the final product. Seriously, your feedback is like gold to me at this point. So, shoot me a text or give me a call to let me know what you think—good, bad, or somewhere in between. After all, Pinkbird isn't just software; it's a tool I want to make as useful for you as possible.
Soaring together,
Evan

This week we're sipping the 2021 Post & Beam.
It's like biting into a crisp green apple, with hints of roasted pear and a zesty kick of Meyer lemon. Perfect match for a lobster sandwich—go with butter, skip the mayo. Cheers! 🍷
